Choosing Agrochemicals for Drone Spraying: Safety Standards from the DJI × Syngenta Tie-up

Effective drone spraying isn't only about the machine — it's also about the right crop-protection products and safe spraying standards. The partnership between DJI Agriculture and agrochemical company Syngenta (in Japan, 2019) makes this clear: a drone maker and a chemical maker jointly built spray standards and training courses. As an authorized DJI Agriculture dealer in Vietnam, 115Drone revisits it and draws lessons for the local context.

Why drones need suitable products

Drone spraying is low-volume with fine droplets — quite different from a knapsack sprayer. Not every product or rate is optimal for this method. Choosing the right product, adjuvant and rate gives even coverage, less drift and better efficacy.

Lessons from the DJI × Syngenta tie-up

The two jointly developed safe spraying technical standards and training courses for multi-rotor drones, expanded the list of drone-suitable products, and ran aerial-application trials. The core message: drones and agrochemicals must go together for spraying to be safe, effective and sustainable.

Applying it in Vietnam

  • Product & rate: favor products/guidance suited to low-volume drone spraying; consult the manufacturer and agronomy advisors.
  • Safety & law: operate under Decree 288, with pilot training — see training.
  • Spray technique: mind flight parameters, droplet size and timing — pair with a proper spraying service.
