Orchard Spraying by Drone: a Guide to Spraying Durian & Coffee Effectively

Protecting fruit-tree orchards from pests and disease is critical — but dense canopies, tall trees and sloping terrain make manual spraying slow, labor-heavy and hard to apply evenly. DJI Agras agriculture drones (the T100/T70P line 115Drone currently distributes) answer the challenge: fast, precise coverage with minimal drift and data-driven orchard management. As an authorized DJI Agriculture dealer in Vietnam, 115Drone summarizes the orchard spraying workflow, tuned to the region's key crops — durian and coffee in the Central Highlands (Tây Nguyên).

Does drone spraying really work on orchards?

These are the questions 115Drone hears most from newcomers:

  • "Can the spray actually penetrate such a thick canopy?"
  • "Does it reach the underside of the leaves?"
  • "How good is the real-world result?"

The answer lies in the canopy-targeting spray technique DJI Agriculture pioneered on the Agras line — now upgraded on the T100/T70P generation.

Branch-targeting across the canopy

Instead of only spraying top-down or bottom-up, branch-targeting directs droplets along the direction of the branches, threading the gaps in the canopy to reach wherever the leaves are. By adjusting arm elevation and fitting a fruit-tree spray kit, the drone creates a branching wind field that follows the canopy structure — penetrating overlapping foliage and covering evenly from top to bottom and in all directions. Per DJI test data, this markedly increases the chemical reaching the underside of the lower-canopy leaves, where pests and disease tend to hide.

Fine mist & less drift

Droplet size makes or breaks results: too fine and it evaporates and drifts; too coarse and it can't penetrate a dense canopy. The fruit-tree nozzle produces a narrow droplet band (around 110–130 μm) — fine enough to penetrate yet settling well. Combined with the branching wind field, the chemical is "locked" inside the canopy rather than blowing away, which raises chemical-use efficiency, cuts cost and reduces environmental impact.

Each model takes a different nozzle/accessory set. Contact 115Drone for the right orchard-spraying configuration for your T70P or T100.

The digital orchard — 3D maps & smart routes

Connected to DJI's smart agriculture platform, the drone can build a 3D map of the orchard and generate automated flight routes via AI — so even complex terrain is managed efficiently by a single drone. It's also the foundation for precision farming; learn more about SmartFarm & NDVI.

Notes for orchard spraying in Vietnam

  • Crops & regions: durian, coffee (Central Highlands), fruit trees in Central Vietnam — canopy and height differ, so tune spray parameters per orchard.
  • Sloping terrain: enable terrain-following, and carefully check obstacles, power lines and people before flying.
  • Regulations: operation must comply with current rules — pilot training under Decree 288. 115Drone provides pilot training and paperwork support.

Orchard spraying service cost (reference)

In the Central Highlands, orchard spraying service for fruit trees (durian, coffee) runs around 600k VND/ha — about 200 L (one drum) of mix per hectare, higher than rice because the dense canopy needs more liquid. Actual cost depends on area, density and crop; contact 115Drone for a per-orchard quote.
